Brief history

A club story worth preserving

Origins

Local cricket in Sevenoaks

The Sennocke Civil Defence Club was inaugurated in 1942 and disbanded after the war ended. The Sennocke Social Club took over cricket responsibilities and amalgamated with the Ambulance Brigade Social Club. They approached Lord Sackville to ask about using his ground in Knole Park, formerly used by a Knole Estate side. He said yes and the basis for regular club cricket in Knole Park began. After various other merges of local social clubs the name Sennocke Cricket Club was adopted in 1951.

Ground

Playing in Knole Park

Knole Park is a magnificent place and has a rich history that has been documented in many books and shows. Since the 18th Century the residents of Knole House have either played or been deeply involved with the game. Cricket appears to have been played in Knole Park around 1735 when "gentlemen of Kent and Sussex played an extraordinary game".

Today

Community and cricket

There are various leagues for local teams to compete in - we play in the Kent County Village League. We draw players from the various schools in the area and due to our close proximity we have had many Sevenoaks School Boys pass through our ranks with many still turning out showing their skills.

Visiting the ground

Sennocke CC is located in Knole Park. The entrance is off the A225 and the gate is managed by staff from the National Trust. Inform the Gate people that you are playing cricket and they will send you up to Knole House. Do not use the main car park the club entrance is under the main house. As you approach the house turn left and head towards the Knole Park Cafe. Once you are there you will also see the 'dungeon' - this is where you will be changing.
